Court Lighting

As part of our ongoing LTA approved action plan to improve playing standards and to increase the number and the frequency of people playing tennis, particularly amongst juniors, we are proposing to upgrade the existing floodlights and extend them to courts 4 and 5.

This has been subject to planning approval and consultation with local residents and others, including the Dark Skies organisation www.dark-skies.org ; and obtaining sufficient funding. Planning permission has now been obtained (14th April) and a detailed technical specification to LTA standards is being prepared for issue for tenders.

We have also had grants approved from East Northamptonshire District Council and, in principle, from the LTA. New lights should all be installed by this autumn.

The existing lights are 20 years old and do create light pollution away from the courts due to their old design. We plan to replace these with new ‘Dark Sky’ type lights and these create very little light spillage whilst we will enhance the actual on court lighting.

This plan was approved by the members at the AGM in November and details are being advanced by the committee.
