Summer Leagues 2008 Captain’s Report
Club Captains Report
November 2008
OTC has had another successful competitive year in both the East Northants and Huntingdon and Peterborough tennis leagues. At the beginning of the year the ladies first team players, having won the Huntingdon and Peterborough first division and gained promotion from the third into the second divisions in 2007, decided to withdraw their first team from the East Northants league and concentrate their efforts in the Huntingdon and Peterborough league.
It was also decided to withdraw the mixed team from the East Northants league this year, following their success last year in the Hunts and Peterborough tennis league, where they won the second division and gained promotion into the first.
In brief the 2008 summer league results are as follows:
Men’s teams
- The Mens East Northants A team came 4th in division 1.
- The Mens East Northants B team won division 2 .and will play in division 1 next year
- The Mens H& P team won division 3 and will play in division 2 next year.
Ladies teams
- The Ladies H & P A team came 4th .in division 1
- The Ladies H & P B team came 6th in division 2 retaining their position.
- The Ladies East Northants team came 3rd in division 2.
Mixed team
- The mixed H & P team came 5th in division 1 retaining their position.
So the overall picture is that the teams that gained promotions last year managed to retain their positions this year, whilst other teams have gained promotion to play in higher leagues next year. Much of this year’s success was down to the good number of strong junior players coming through to play matches at a senior level.
Yours truly,
Jeremy Nicholas
