The 2011 tournament finals will be held on 26th June 2011 – book the date NOW in your diaries.

2011 Entries – Please send by email to treasurer@oundletennis.org with a mobile and home contact number, indicate which events you are entering and whether you would like a partner to be allocated in doubles.
Entries Close Friday 15th April
Semi Finals complete by 20th June so that running order for finals can be fixed
Finals Sunday 26^th June 1pm

The Schedule may be changed at the discretion of the organiser and will depend on the number of entries.

All entrants should get at least two matches. Byes and walkovers may lead to additional repercharge opportunities.

Plate opponents will be switched if possible in the event of players being scheduled to play against opponents whom they have already played.

Open Day and Grand Opening

The New lights on Courts 3, 4 & 5 were officially opened on Sunday 28th March at 3pm by the Mayor of Oundle David Chapple at the Open Day. He said “This is fantastic news for Oundle Tennis Club. I am delighted to officially open the new floodlit courts which will benefit players of all abilities. The improvement to the facilities will provide access for more local people, especially juniors, to longer playing hours year round and encourage more people in the area to get involved in the sport with the launch of its extended coaching programme.”

The lights were the result of a £40,000 18 month project led by the Treasurer John Whight and supported by the LTA and East Northants District Council.

We were blessed with excellent weather and all five courts remained in use throughout a great afternoon of social tennis, junior and mini tennis taster sessions and a cardio tennis workout.

Stella Hatcher, a founding member of the club, was also presented with lifelong membership for her ongoing services to the club.

The day was also a chance to see the recent clubhouse refurbishment and to sign up with the new R2R coaching team. 30 new members also took advantage of the 10% Discount and no joining fee offer.

Lights, Camera, Action

The much heralded new lights have arrived and been installed on courts 3, 4 and 5.

The new lenses work very well, cutting down glare and we have already had positive comments from the neighboors as to their reduced light pollution.

Grants from the LTA and ENDC have been gratefully received and banked.

All are working perfectly in time for the Open Day on March 28th.

2010 Senior Teams and Matches

The club plays in summer in the Aegon County Championships and in both the East Northants and the Hunts and Peterborough Leagues.

Aegon: Mens team (Cambridgeshire)

East Northants: Two Mens teams (Divisions 1 and 2), One Ladies team (Division 2)

H&P: Two Ladies teams (Division 1 and 2), One Mixed (Division 1) and One Mens (Division 3)

During the winter we run a men’s team in the Peterborough and District Winter League

Anyone interested in playing league tennis and/or helping to run the teams should let the club captain know immediately by emailing David Barton (matches@oundletennis.org) or the relevant captains.

Oundle Players Success for County Teams

Oundle players Peter Whight, James Henley, and Sophie Walker all represented Northamptonshire last week in the annual Under 18 County Cup Competitions.

In a Davis cup style of competition, the boys team beat Scotland (South), Wales (North), and Cumbria with a close 5-4 win over Scotland on the last day to clinch promotion.

The girls team held onto their promotion of last year by beating Wiltshire and Hereford & Worcestershire but couldn’t quite gain a further promotion after having lost 6-3 to Suffolk on the first day.

Spring News 2010

As the start of the new season approaches we are delighted to tell you of the progress we have made in the club over the winter.

You have probably noticed that work is well under way to provide flood lighting for Courts 4 and 5 meaning we will have 5 lit courts to play on in the dark evenings. Keeping more of the people happy more of the time! Stage 2 of this project will follow soon. This will see the lights on court 3 much improved.

The snowy winter got the better of Jon Tregidgo [the old new head coach]. Sadly he resigned in the month that he took over and is now sitting in the sun in Australia.

We have not rested on our laurels, however, and we are delighted to announce that R2R are taking over and developing the coaching programme. Jack Hubbard will be leading coaching at Oundle club with Simon Nathan and we expect to see coaching and match playing opportunities for both adults and juniors flourish. Especially now we’ve got 5 floodlit courts!!

News will follow soon about contacting the Club Captain if you would like to play in the league teams. Volunteers to captain a team are always welcome please.

Club members Sophie Walker, Peter Whight, and James Henley all represented the county at the U18 county cup this month. The Girls team came second and held their division 5 place. The boys won division 6 and gained promotion.

New Coaching Programme

Subject to contract Oundle has now appointed R2R Tennis to provide an enhance coaching programme for 2010.

This is expected to include from April

A new beginners and returners programme for adults
Cardio Tennis
A New Schools programme for juniors
Beginners classes for juniors
Continuation of the existing junior programme
An enhanced junior performance programme
